Janice Maria Mancini Ys (1987), The Netherlands

J.M.M. Ys operates in the space between thought and form. She is fascinated by the “grey area”, the point where a shape is not yet defined, or where it begins to dissolve.

By playing with the tension between figurative elements and abstraction, her work investigates how much detail is needed to evoke an emotion and where a line can simply become a feeling. In her practice, classical oil paint, acrylics, and Polychromos pencil bleed into digital experiments.

Recent series like BONING and BIRDEN push this boundary further, digging beneath the skin to uncover the digital subconscious.
As her visual language evolves, she is bridging the gap between fine art and design, translating this raw search for “unfamiliar beauty” into tangible concepts.
